Welcome to MOBS — My Online Bookshelf (“MOBS”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), operated by Megan Sloderbeck (MOBS — My Online Bookshelf). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of our website and app at myonlinebookshelf.com (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. The Service

MOBS is a personal book‑cataloging tool that lets you track, organize, and display your book collection. The Service is provided free of charge. Features may change, and the Service may occasionally be unavailable.

2. Accounts

You may use much of the Service as a guest. If you create an account, you agree to provide accurate information, to keep your password secure, and that you are responsible for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.

3. Your Content

“Your Content” means the information you add to the Service, such as notes, ratings, custom shelves, and any cover photos you upload. You retain your rights to Your Content. You grant us a limited, non‑exclusive license to store, process, and display Your Content solely to operate and provide the Service to you (for example, to sync it across your devices).

You are responsible for Your Content and represent that you have the rights necessary to upload it, and that it does not infringe anyone’s rights or violate any law.

4. Third‑Party Book Data & Cover Images

Book details and cover artwork displayed in the Service are retrieved from third‑party catalogs (such as Google Books and Open Library) and remain the property of their respective owners. They are provided to help you catalog and reference your personal collection. MOBS does not claim ownership of this third‑party content.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to upload infringing, harmful, or unlawful material;
Attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse‑engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems;
Misuse others’ accounts or data, or scrape the Service in a way that harms its operation.

6. Public Profiles & Community Content

MOBS offers an optional public profile. Profiles are private by default — nothing about you is shared publicly unless you choose to turn your profile on. If you make your profile public, the display name, bio, username, and book collection you choose to include become viewable by anyone with your profile link.

You are responsible for the content you make public. There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. You must not publish content that is hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, defamatory, deceptive (including impersonation), unlawful, or that infringes others’ rights.

Anyone can report a public profile using the “Report this profile” link on that profile. We review reports and may remove content, take down a profile, or suspend an account at our discretion, without notice. We aim to act on reports of objectionable content promptly, typically within 24 hours. You may make your own profile private again at any time from the app.

7. Intellectual Property

The MOBS name, logo, design, original artwork, and software are owned by us and protected by applicable laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute them without our permission.

8. Copyright & DMCA

We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, please see our DMCA Takedown page for how to submit a notice.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non‑infringement. The Service may contain bugs and data loss is possible. Please keep your own backups using the app’s export feature. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error‑free, or that book data will be accurate or complete.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MOBS and Megan Sloderbeck (MOBS — My Online Bookshelf) will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service.

11. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service and its users.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms or the Service from time to time. When we update the Terms, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, without regard to conflict‑of‑law principles.

14. Affiliate Disclosure

MOBS is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, MOBS earns from qualifying purchases. Some links within the app (such as “Buy on Amazon”) are affiliate links — if you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. This helps keep MOBS free.
